“I am training hard to reach the day when I can compete against Oliver at a major British event – and beat him. Can you give me any advice about how you find sponsors?”

Oliver answers: You have to ask not what the sponsor can do for you but what you can do for the sponsor, because they are looking for value for money and that generally comes from riders with high profiles because they have been successful at big events. Also take note of your spelling and research when you contact sponsors, as I have noticed in your email you spelt my name Ollie Towsend instead of Oliver Townend, which is not a good way to start!

I admire your punch, as you will need it to be successful in any sport or business including eventing, and we wish you all the best of luck in the future and hope we see you at the big events soon.
